CPU fan speed depends a lot on its temperature when using a computer. And, if your computer speed is good, you will have the buttery smooth performance of the computer.
However, it is not that easy as it seems to be. I have mostly seen people complaining about the heat that the CPU produces, and this is the most common issue as well. And, it is not something that you should ignore.
Now, most people go with BIOS method that is easy. However, this doesn’t work for everyone every time. So, if you will read the article thoroughly, you will get some pro tips for changing and setting the fan speed. So, keep reading!

Fan control software to change CPU fan speed
Using a fan control software is a good option if you have heat problems in your CPU. Because this software has automatic heat control settings. So, this is what I prefer to go with.
Because by going with the automatic settings, your software will detect the heat itself when it crosses the limit. And, it will turn the blower speed high to control the heat.
Now, I would instead suggest you go with Speedfan software, but you can go with your choice as well. However, make sure to check that your software can run on Windows 10 OS.
Now, let me tell you about Speedfan software for fan control.
SpeedFan software to increase CPU fan speed
Speedfan software is a free software to install and it comes with a lot of options for you. However, even if it’s been years since the software was launched, it is still a bit complicated for beginners to understand its settings.
So, I highly suggest you watch some tutorials or take professional help in this regard. Otherwise, a minor error can damage your hardware. So, if you still don’t understand the video or can’t get any professional help, see my step-wise guide below.

Changing the SpeedFan settings for best fan speed for PC
Now, we will change the SpeedFan settings from manual to automatic. By doing this, we will increase the fan speed and keep the system cool.
I have already said that above. And, I am saying that again. Once you change the settings from manual to automatic, the software will automatically detect when the system gets heated. And, this will turn the blower high to keep the system cool.
For doing so, you will first click on Configure button and then you will click on the Advanced tab. You will click on the Chip drop-down menu to select your motherboard chipset.
Once you are done with all that, you will click on the PWM option that will include all 1,2 and 3. Make sure to keep them on manual. In the end, you will click on the OK button in the box.
Setting up the automatic fan control
Now, it’s time to set the automatic Fan control options. You can now set the maximum and minimum RPM for the fans. You will click on the configure button and click on the Speeds tab.
- After setting them up, you will click on the fan control tab. Here you will see how to adjust the CPU fan speed. You will set the temperature that you want for your CPU after clicking the fan control tab.
- Now, it is best to save the settings to increase CPU fan speed rather than doing all the settings every time from the start. Because you will have to do it every time if it is not saved.
- Now, you will click on the temperature tab, and your CPU fan will either accelerate or slow down the speed based on the temperature your CPU has.
- Make sure that you check the temperature sensor to keep track of the CPU temperature. And for that, you will see two options on the lower side when you scroll.
- These options will be ‘required’ and ‘warning.’ You can click on them with the arrows given with them. And now press the OK button because now you are OK to go with the software.
- That’s how to change CPU fan speed without BIOS with SpeedFan software. As I already told you, this is a bit technical but worth it. However, if you still have some confusion, I recommend you read the steps twice or thrice before you begin.
But, if that still doesn’t work or leads to more confusion, here is a video tutorial to better understand. I hope this will wipe out all the confusion now.
Now, even though Speedfan is an excellent free software to change fan speed windows 10, it still doesn’t work on all PCs. And, you may not worry about that because I have another free software for you.
You can go with Notebook fan control, HW monitor, and ZOTAC firestorm.
You can watch the tutorials also that I’m stating below because it will take too long to discuss them.
So, now you learned how to change CPU fan speed without BIOS mainly by using SpeedFan free software. You can now proceed with the heating issue and use the CPU with better performance! Get ready to use a better system now!
What will be the average fan speed in the CPU?
Typically, the RPM for any CPU fan ranges from 3500RM up to 4000RM.
What temperature is too hot for the computer?
80° C or 175°F is too hot for the system and damages the system if you don’t turn it off.
Is 1200 RPM speed enough for fans?
As CPU fans primarily run at 5000 RPM speed, 1200 is low for them to cool down at once.
